Maca began to be harvested and used domestically, by humans, sometimes around 3,800 B.C., with evidence being found in archaeological sites, dating back to 1,600 B.C., as an important traditional food, and a Psychoactive, medicinal plant, that is well known and celebrated.  It was most likely fully domesticated between 1200 and 100 B.C., by the Pumpush culture, fierce warriors tribes that migrated up from the jungles. Maca was brought to greater perfection by the Yaro, who arrived between 1,100 and 1,470 A.D. The Yaro cultivated immense fields of Maca. After the Inca conquest of these tribes, they sent great quantities of this Entheogen to Cusco, as tribute to their new rulers. The Incas found Maka to be such a potent Psychoactive, and held it in such high regard, that they restricted its use to their royal court, and their conquering Imperial warriors.

From the time of the Pre-Inca days, consuming Maca  Maca has been a natural means of improving physical and mental strength, one of the most important Benefits of Maca, by helping enhance physical energy, promote mental clarity, boost workload, and of course, virility. Historically, indigenous peoples traded this Entheogen for lowland tropical food staples, such as corn, rice, tapioca, quinoa, and papaya. This Entheogen was also identified by those involved in trading Maca for other goods, as Maca Peruvian, because of its limited growing region.
